Public transit has become an increasingly popular way of travel, it saves money, is efficient and it’s better for the environment. It is crucial to prioritize safety while on the go in order to ensure a safe and secure journey. Here are some tips to stay safe in public transit:

  1. Plan your route and the fare beforehand and schedule to avoid fumbling through your bag to look for your pass or change.
  2. Avoid waiting at bus stops or on platforms away from visible lighting. If you are travelling alone at night, let someone you trust know your planned route.
  3. Choose an available seat near the driver to find help easily if needed. Avoid sitting next to the door which is a common place for snatch-and-go theft.
  4. Stay alert and keep your personal belongings close to you. Be aware of your surroundings, don’t focus on your phone and don’t fall asleep.
  5. Trust your instincts when you are not feeling comfortable and voice out when you encounter harassment or attack.

By following these simple yet effective tips, you can make your public transit experience safer and more enjoyable. Prioritizing your safety is key on your journey.
