The City of Greater Sudbury invites you to gear up for Bike Month in June! Bike Month is a celebration of all things cycling and the perfect time to get active outside by bike! There are cycling routes throughout the region to help you to your destination for recreation and commuting.

Bike to School Week: May 27th to May 31st

Get ready to hit the road for a great cause!

Bike to School Week Challenge is back from May 27 to May 31, promoting active travel—meaning walking, biking, or wheeling—and eco-friendly transportation methods. This year introduces the Active School Trophy, which will be awarded to the school with the most active travel trips. Participating Schools will be offered prize packs, tracking posters, and stickers.

Bike to Work Day: Wednesday, June 5th 7 AM- 10 AM

Join  Smart Commute Greater Sudbury and the City of Greater Sudbury on group rides to our Commuter Café located at Tom Davies Square in Downtown Sudbury. Meet us at five different locations within Greater Sudbury as we commute by bike to Tom Davies Square. Stop for a Grab-and-Go Breakfast and listen to the Mayor’s Proclamation on Bike Month, before you head to work. Local bike mechanics will be on-site to answer questions and help with minor bike repairs.

The five-official meet-up points and start times are:

West End: Mary St and Glover Ave (Delki Dozzi Skate park) at 7:30 a.m.
Flourmill: Thomas Street and Notre Dame Ave (Overtime Sports Bar Notre Dame) at 7:30 a.m.
New Sudbury: Lasalle Blvd and Auger St (Boss Supplements) at 7:20 a.m.
Minnow Lake: Levesque St and Kingsway (Tim Hortans) at 7:15 a.m.
South End: Oriole Drive (Oriole Park) at 7:10 a.m.

Mayor’s Community Bike Ride: Wednesday, June 5thth 5:30 - 7 PM 

Join us for the annual Mayor’s Community Bike Ride at the CP Rail parking lot on Elgin Street to kick off Bike Month with the Mayor of Greater Sudbury. Meet up at 5:30 PM for a 6 PM departure. The ride is led and hosted by Bike Sudbury and winds through trails, bike lane infrastructure and quieter roads. Learn more here

Bike Month Booth at the Sudbury Downtown Market: Thursday, June 27th from 2 - 6 PM and Saturday June 29th from 10 AM - 3 PM

Meet us at our spot at the Sudbury Market. We will be on site to talk about trails, bike safety and sustainable travel options!

Annual Kid's Bike Exchange and Rodeo: Sunday, June 30 from 10 AM - 1 PM

Hosted by Session Ride Company and the City of Greater Sudbury.

Join us from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 30, 2024, in the Tom Davies Square Courtyard.

This year, we're taking it up a notch with an exciting addition – the Kids Bike Rodeo!

Bring your old bikes and trade them in for ones that fit, are safe, and ready to hit the streets. It's the perfect opportunity to upgrade and recycle those bikes that have been gathering dust.

The Kids Bike Rodeo will be running simultaneously, packed with fun and learning for all ages! Kids can navigate through exciting obstacle courses, learn essential bike safety skills, and even win awesome prizes!

It's a day filled with bikes, fun, and adventure that your kids won't want to miss!


Safe Cycling 101: Wednesday, May 29 from 12 - 1 PM
Learn everything you need to know about cycling with confidence!
Topics include: equipment and bike fit, safe riding techniques, rules and responsibilities, interactions with others, choosing your route and more.

Going by Bike: Thursday, June 13 from 12 - 1 PM
Cycle Toronto will show you how you can do more of your daily trips by bike and how easy it can be! We’ll walk you through how you can do everything from commuting to work, picking up your kids, and even grocery shopping by bike. Learn about road rules, how to navigate the different types of urban cycling infrastructure, and how to map out a safe and efficient commute.

Basic Bike Maintenance: Wednesday, June 19 from 12 - 1 PM
Learn the basics of how to maintain your bike!
Topics include: safety checks, assessing air pressure and flat tires, tightening your brakes, lubing your chain, and ensuring your bike is the right fit.

Smart Commute Bike Month Contest

Log cycling trips for a chance to WIN a $100 e-gift card!

How to participate:

  • Log your bike trips on for a chance to win a $100 e-gift card, courtesy of the City of Greater Sudbury (5 available). 
  • Bike trips taken between June 1 to June 30, 2024 are eligible, and must be logged by 11:59pm EST on July 7 to qualify for the prize draw.
  • Up to two (2) bike trips per day are eligible for the contest.
  • Each respective Smart Commute office reserves the right to distribute prizes, subject to change without notice.

Note: Logging a bike trip on automatically enters you into the Smart Commute Contest and winners may choose to opt out receiving the prize. Official City of Greater Sudbury Contest Rules.
