Carpooling has become very popular in the past decade because it is cost-effective, convenient, and helps the environment while meeting new friends. But it is important to stay safe while carpooling to ensure a safe and secure journey. Here are some tips for both drivers and passengers.
For drivers:
- Make sure all seat belts in the car must be working
- Keep away from distractions for example phones and loud noises
- Limit carpool size (The safest setting is no more than one person per row of seats, and passengers should sit diagonally from each other if all of you are strangers)
- Set up rules and etiquette for passengers
- No “Drop-In” Riders
- Clean all surfaces regularly
- Be on time
- You should also inform your insurance company if you are using your vehicle for carpooling service
For passengers:
- Always buckle up
- Help the driver navigate when needed
- Practise physical distancing and don’t distract the driver
- Respect the driver’s rules
- Use contactless payment methods when possible
- Get the driver’s information beforehand and share it with people you can trust
- Be on time
Following these simple yet effective tips can make your carpool experience safer and more enjoyable. Prioritizing your safety is key on your journey.
