Carpooling is a fun way to bond with co-workers and save money while commuting to work. Before hopping into the driver's seat, there is some preparation needed for your commute.

You need to make sure your car is up to par. There are many things you should do and be aware of to ensure it is working properly:

  • Get your car serviced yearly
  • Switch to winter tires in colder months
  • Understand the lights on your dashboard
  • Inspect tires
  • Drive gently
  • Inspect tires
  • Don't drive distracted
  • Check with your insurance company about the rules around carpooling to and from work

Carpooling doesn't need to just be limited to who you work with. Consider those who work near you in a similar area. Perhaps you work near a subway station or your child's friends are also being driven to school by their parents. If no one comes to mind, you can connect with other carpoolers using the SmartCommute.ca app . You can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Carpooling with strangers can be a great way to meet people in your community but precautions need to be taken to ensure it is done safely. We recommend that you have a friend or adult family member in the car with you when you carpool with a stranger for the first time. We also recommend that you do research on this individual beforehand. Also, be aware of where you meet this stranger. Meeting someone through a friend or mutual connection is a safer option than meeting a stranger online.

Once you have done the prep work, you are ready for your carpool journey! Stay tuned for more posts relating to enriching your commute experience and download the SmartCommute.ca app app for more information.
