About Smart Commute

Traffic congestion is often identified as the main challenge facing those who live and work in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Smart Commute programs and services make it easier for businesses and residents to take transit, carpool, or walk rather than driving alone. Commuting more sustainably helps reduce traffic and improves the environment by reducing emissions, and improving air quality.

Smart Commute is supported and implemented by the municipalities in the GTHA. The program provides workplaces, schools, and the public with services and solutions for a better and more sustainable commute. In doing so, we ease gridlock and decrease our collective carbon footprint while helping employers, employees, and the public save time and money and improve health and well-being.

Smart Commute works with over 345 employers in the GTHA and helps more than 712,000 people discover and adopt more sustainable commutes.
