Did you know that there is a transformative project that will form a key spine of York Region and the City of Toronto? The Lake to Lake Cycling Route and Walking Trail is a 121 km recreational and commuter trail that will connect Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario.

The trail passes through cities including Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Toronto.

If you are an advanced cyclist and want to explore the Region, it is a good opportunity to do so using this route. Before biking, preparation is key. For example, plan your route, dress for the weather, bring enough snacks and water, have enough rest the night before, warm-up before starting and more.

There are major connecting routes you can try, so you can leave the Lake to Lake Route wherever you want. The green vertical line is the Lake to Lake Route.

The Lake to Lake Route within the City of Markham is completed. It consists of a 4.2km multi-use pathway along Leslie Street, extending from Highway 7 to John Street. From there, it connected to the existing German Mills Settlers’ Park trail through the park.

The Lake to Lake Route within the City of Richmond Hill is set to extend for 18 km running in a north-south direction from Bloomington Road to Highway 7. This pathway connects with planned and existing sections in Aurora and Markham. As of November 2020, over 12 km of the route within Richmond Hill is completed. 2km of the sections are yet to be constructed in Richmond Hill.
