Your walk to work can be a daily activity that you look forward to. There are many things that can be done to enhance your walk to work and allow this time to improve your physical and emotional health. See below for ideas.

Listening to upbeat music increases the brain's production of dopamine and serotonin. This causes you to experience feelings of increased happiness and joy. In addition to this, the BPM (beats per minute) of a song can influence the pace of your walk. The higher the BPM, the faster you walk. Personally, I prefer to listen to 2000s throwbacks from artists such as Taio Cruz, the Black Eyed Peas or Pitbull during my walk.

A more educational way to enjoy your walk is to listen to a podcast. There are countless to choose from so regardless of your interests, you will find one that meets your needs. You can find anything from murder mysteries, sports, pop culture, religion, nutrition, celebrity gossip and much more!

Another option is to walk with a friend. As our work and home lives become increasingly technologically dependent, walking with a friend provides a refreshing break. You have the opportunity to get outside, strengthen your bond, and refresh your mind.

Goal setting is important in becoming consistent. Have you heard about the 21/90 rule? According to this rule, it takes 21 days to create a habit and 90 days to integrate your habit into your lifestyle. Therefore a good goal to set for yourself is to walk to work for 21 days. Once you reach that milestone set a goal for yourself of 90 days.

There are multiple ways to improve and enjoy your walk. Try out each of these tips to find out what works for you!
