School Travel

Smart Commute works with community, government, and school partners to encourage active and sustainable school travel. Programming can support school boards, schools, parents and students to promote walking, cycling and sustainable school transportation through campaigns and events.

Getting to School

Smart Commute is here to help you find a better way to get to school by walking, cycling, carpooling or riding the bus. School travel using sustainable modes can reduce the number of cars in the school zone minimizing congestion and safety issues while improving air quality for everyone!

Active school travel fosters vitality in children, schools and communities. Encouraging students to cycle, walk, roll or take the bus to school increases children’s independence, promotes social interactions with other students as well as physical activity, and fosters positive daily habits.
