Summer may be over, but that does not stop you from exploring the many cycling trails York Region has to offer! In fact, many people may argue that Fall is the best season for cycling because the temperature is not too hot or cold and for the scenic view of the leaves changing color. Consider taking your bike out for a spin this Fall and explore these popular trails in Richmond Hill.
1. Mill Pond Park Trail
Located in Mill Pond Park, one of Richmond Hill’s most popular outdoor recreation and entertainment areas, this 1.9 km urban trail is an easy route where you can bring your bike for mountain or road biking. Overlooking the pond, you'll find a playground, boardwalk and trail, gazebo, and wildlife such as ducks and swans.
2. Lake Wilcox Park Loop
This 1.6 km urban loop trail is a well paved and easy-to-walk trail for all ages. The trail is located in Wilcox Park, a waterfront park that includes a playground, youth area, the Oak Ridges Community Centre, and a newly built 130 m long boardwalk. Besides biking, this is also a popular trail for birding, fishing, and paddle boarding.
3. Saigeon Trail
This 5.1 km trail is located in the Jefferson Community within Richmond Hill. With lots of dense vegetation, the family-friendly trail is excellent for hiking, mountain biking, and running. The path is mostly paved and has winding boardwalks over a creek. The diverse terrain has a rolling landscape, which leads to several ponds and bridges.
4. Oak Ridges Trail
This 9.2 km trail is located in the Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve, a 175-hectare nature reserve featuring forests, wetlands, meadows, and kettle lakes between Bathurst Street and Bayview Avenue. Famous for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking, the trail is part of the Lake to Lake Trail, which will provide a continuous 121 km trail from Lake Ontario to Lake Simcoe for both cyclists and walkers.
