Carpool Week 2014 Contest Winner
Congratulations to Kathryn Stasiuk Riddell, winner of the trip for two to Quebec City, in Business Class, courtesy of VIA Rail. Kathryn is a co-op student from the University of Guelph who is currently working at the City of Hamilton, which is a Smart Commute Hamilton workplace.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s Carpool Week campaign! We generated a 12% increase in new users on Carpool Zone during the campaign period and achieved a record high number of 16,000 active users. This means everyone has more chances of finding someone to share the ride!
Carpool Week is an annual campaign encouraging people to carpool and celebrating how much commuters can save by driving to work, school or an event with at least one other person.
Whether you're driving all the way to work, or just to the GO station, chances are there’s someone else with a similar commute. Carpool Zone will help you get in touch with them and get the carpool started.
Save Time and Money!
Cars with two or more occupants are less likely to get stuck in traffic because they can use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes. The average cost of owning and operating a vehicle in Canada is $10,500 per year. Carpoolers can reduce their costs considerably by sharing the drive to work. Two people, sharing a 50km (return) commute five days a week will each save $54 on gasoline alone in one month. Calculate your savings here.
